Celebrating National Volunteering Week at North West Credit Union
National Volunteering Week is always an important opportunity to recognise the vital contribution volunteers make to our communities, and this year North West Credit Union was proud to play an active role by partnering with Sligo Volunteer Centre throughout the week.
We were delighted to link in with the Sligo Volunteer Centre team, who based their full programme of National Volunteering Week activities here in our Wine Street building. Having the Centre onsite created a real buzz throughout the week and gave members of the public a valuable chance to learn more about volunteering opportunities across the region.
A week of activity in our Sligo building
The week began with a Volunteer Appreciation Coffee Morning in Tubbercurry, bringing together local volunteers and organisations to celebrate the impact of volunteering at community level. This was followed by the official launch of National Volunteering Week, which took place here in North West Credit Union on Wine Street, marking a proud moment for everyone involved.
From Tuesday through to Friday, our building hosted the Sligo Volunteer Centre Pop‑Up, where visitors could drop in to meet the Volunteer Centre team, explore volunteering opportunities, and share what volunteering has meant to them. We were especially pleased to welcome local volunteers, community groups and members who took the time to call in and engage.
The week concluded with another Pop‑Up event supporting Guide Dogs for the Blind, showcasing volunteering in action and highlighting how small efforts can make a big difference.

Reaching out in Boyle
Volunteering Week wasn’t limited to Sligo. On Wednesday, our team travelled to Boyle, where our Volunteer Daire met with new and prospective volunteers. This was a fantastic opportunity to connect directly with people interested in giving back to their community and to discuss the many ways volunteering can be both rewarding and impactful.
Volunteering at the heart of North West Credit Union
As a member‑owned organisation, volunteering is central to who we are at North West Credit Union. Behind the scenes, our Nominations Committee is currently seeking to recruit volunteers to join our Board of Directors.
Serving on the Board is a meaningful way to contribute skills, experience and fresh perspectives while helping to guide the future of your local credit union. Anyone interested can pick up a Volunteering Pack in their local branch or visit the Volunteering section of our website to find out more.

Thank you to Sligo Volunteer Centre
We would like to sincerely congratulate Sligo Volunteer Centre on delivering such a successful and engaging National Volunteering Week. Thank you to the entire team for their dedication, energy and collaboration throughout the week, and for the invaluable work they do year‑round in supporting volunteering across our communities.
National Volunteering Week reminded us that when people come together with a shared purpose, positive change follows — and we are proud to support and celebrate that spirit at North West Credit Union.
