NWCU 2026 Educational Bursary Award Recipients
North West Credit Union is proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 Educational Bursary Awards, recognising seven exceptional students from across our common bond area* who have demonstrated ambition, resilience and a commitment to achieving their educational goals.
This year's awards attracted the highest number of applications ever received, making the selection process more competitive than at any point in the programme's history. The judging committee was deeply impressed by the outstanding standard of submissions and the inspiring stories shared by students pursuing their educational dreams.
The Educational Bursary Awards reflect North West Credit Union's continued commitment to supporting members through education and helping to ease some of the financial pressures associated with third-level study.
Meet Our 2026 Educational Bursary Award Winners
Anthonia Chea
College: ATU Sligo
Anthonia's inspiring application reflected the importance of education, perseverance and creating opportunities for future generations. The judging panel was impressed by the determination and ambition evident throughout the submission.
Abhainn Savage
College: ATU Sligo
Abhainn's application highlighted a strong commitment to the performing arts and a determination to pursue a career in a highly competitive field. The bursary will help support continued educational and professional development.
Alanna Dorey
College: ATU Sligo
Alanna demonstrated tremendous dedication to achieving academic goals while balancing significant responsibilities outside of college. The bursary will help ease financial pressures and support future educational ambitions.
Ella Gallagher
College: Dublin City University
Ella's application showcased resilience, determination and a strong commitment to educational success. The bursary will provide valuable support as Ella continues to balance the demands of third-level study.
Jemma Brehony
College: St. Angela's College
Jemma's application highlighted the commitment required to pursue a career in education and the practical challenges that come with third-level study. The bursary will help support the final stages of an exciting academic journey.
Leighanne O'Malley
College: University of Limerick
Leighanne demonstrated exceptional dedication to postgraduate education while balancing the demands of professional training and academic study. The bursary will help support continued progress towards a rewarding career.
Rebecca Smith
College: ATU Sligo
Rebecca's application highlighted the challenges and commitment involved in preparing for a career in healthcare. The bursary will assist with the costs associated with professional training and academic development.
Recognising Every Applicant
While we are delighted to celebrate this year's bursary recipients, we would also like to acknowledge every student who applied.
The record number of applications received demonstrates the enormous talent, ambition and determination that exists throughout our communities. The judging committee carefully reviewed each submission and was inspired by the personal stories, educational achievements and aspirations shared by applicants.
The standard was exceptionally high, making the final decision extremely difficult. Every application reflected hard work, commitment and a genuine desire to make a positive impact through education.
