North West Credit Union Raises €2,526 at Relay For Life Sligo
Walking Together for a Wonderful Cause
On the 5th September, the team at North West Credit Union proudly took part in Relay For Life Sligo. Our team of 13 staff members joined hundreds of participants from across the region for 24 hours of walking, remembrance, celebration and hope in support of the Irish Cancer Society.
The event brought communities together to honour cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and stand alongside those currently facing a cancer diagnosis. It was a powerful reminder of the strength that can be found when people unite behind a common cause.

An Incredible Fundraising Achievement
We are delighted to share that Team North West Credit Union raised an incredible €2,526 through donations and fundraising efforts.
This fantastic total would not have been possible without the support of our members, colleagues, family, friends and local communities. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help the Irish Cancer Society continue providing essential services and support to cancer patients and their families across Ireland.
On behalf of the entire team, thank you to everyone who donated, shared our fundraising page, purchased candle bags or offered words of encouragement throughout the event.

A Special Atmosphere at the ATU Sligo Knocknarea Arena Relay for Life
The ATU Sligo Knocknarea Arena Relay for Life once again delivered an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Throughout the event, participants, volunteers and supporters created an atmosphere filled with positivity, courage and community spirit. From the opening laps to the final handover, there was a constant sense of support and togetherness around the track.
A particularly moving moment was the Candle of Hope Ceremony Sligo, which gave participants an opportunity to pause, reflect and remember loved ones affected by cancer. Events like these remind us why Relay For Life is so important and why communities continue to support it year after year.
The performances by the Sligo Cancer Survivor Choir were another highlight of the weekend, inspiring everyone in attendance with messages of resilience, hope and determination.

When the Wind Had Other Plans
While fundraising and community spirit were at the heart of the event, there was also one memorable moment that our team will not forget anytime soon.
For the second year in a row, the famous North West Credit Union tent decided it wasn't interested in staying put and was blown away by the strong winds!
Thankfully, there was no damage done beyond a few bruised egos and plenty of laughter. In fact, it has become somewhat of a running joke within the team, and we're beginning to think our tent is now as famous as our fundraising efforts.
Despite the unexpected adventure, our walkers kept going, smiles remained firmly in place and the team spirit never wavered.
Thank You to the Organising Committee
Events like Irish Cancer Society Sligo Relay 2026 do not happen without an enormous amount of work behind the scenes.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the organising committee, volunteers and everyone involved in delivering such a meaningful event. Their dedication, planning and commitment created a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment for participants and supporters alike.
The passion shown by everyone involved is what makes Relay For Life Sligo such a special fixture in the local Sligo community year after year.

Looking Ahead to Next Year
Whether you joined us in person, supported us online, followed the Relay for Life Sligo 2026 YouTube live stream, made a donation or simply cheered us on, thank you for helping Team North West Credit Union raise €2,526 for such an important cause.
We are incredibly proud to have played our part and honoured to support the work of the Irish Cancer Society.
And as for the tent? Well, despite being defeated by the elements for two consecutive years, we're already looking forward to coming back next year.
We'll return with the same enthusiasm, the same community spirit, the same commitment to fundraising and, hopefully, a tent that can finally withstand the Sligo weather! 💛
