Celebrating International Credit Union Day 2026 at North West Credit Union

On Thursday, 15 October, we join credit unions around the world in celebrating International Credit Union Day, a day that recognises the positive impact credit unions have on the people and communities they serve.

This year's celebration is especially meaningful for us as it marks our first International Credit Union Day as North West Credit Union (NWCU) following the merger of Sligo and Boyle Credit Unions and our recent rebrand. By bringing together the strengths, expertise and heritage of both organisations, we have created a stronger, future-focused credit union that continues to put people and communities first.

Today, NWCU serves more than 30,000 members across Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon, with total assets of €119 million and a dedicated team of 40 staff. While much has changed since our beginnings in 1965, our commitment to supporting local people remains the same.

We continue to provide a wide range of financial services, including savings, loans and current accounts, while also developing new products to meet the changing needs of our members. This year, we were proud to launch our dedicated Farming Loan, designed to support the agricultural community across our region.

Community support remains at the heart of everything we do. Through our annual Community Fund, we provide €30,000 each year to local groups and initiatives, alongside a wide range of sponsorships and partnerships that help communities thrive.
